We do not forget

October 26, 2010 By Dr. Marcy Cole

During a session with a client today she expressed some concern, “I hope I don’t forget this lesson!”. We’ve all wondered and perhaps worried about that before but really need to give ourselves more credit then that. We are in the driver’s seat of our life. If we choose to retain what we’ve learned and and put to good use we will. Or if we choose to push it down and away it may feel far from our reach.

But here’s what’s so cool to remember about what we learn……it cannot be forgotten! Each new understanding, acknowledgement, “Ah Ha” is safely archived in our consciousness. It is there for our keeping and reference whenever we want or need to call it forth. So….just know that every lesson learned is like a cell of consciousness that is embedded in our being. It is ours and cannot ever be taken away. Revel in that one for a while…..you’ll feel quite wise after all the cumulative learnings you’ve collected along the way! And what’s even cooler….is there is no ceiling or limit…..it just keeps comin…….

The Habit of Making Powerful Choices.

by: Sigal Zoldan
Listen on Odyssey Radio Saturday 23

Everyday I find myself in a position where I need to make choices. From what I’ll cook for dinner, or where we’ll dine out, to where to invest my time and money and what would be the next step in my business.

For as long as I can remember myself, each time prior to making a choice there were a few things that were important to me:

- That I’d feel complete about it.
- That I and others would be happy about it

(meaning, that I don’t intend to hurt anyone, even though some people
feel hurt).

- That I’d feel that because of the choice I made, even if I am not excited about it at that moment, I know that in the holistic picture, it is THE choice I should make.

I call it: "Making Powerful Choices". Because when I don’t make choices in that way, I feel disempowered, and I don’t live my life being disempowered, my goal is to be empowered, to feel good, to enjoy my daily work and endeavors.

Lately, there were many choices I needed to make. It was very challenging for me to balance all of the variables in a way that made me feel empowered. One of the lessons that I learned was that it is not so comfortable for me to be in the unknown, and that’s exactly why I had this burning desire to make a choice, and an empowering one.

I had to be willing to step out of my comfort zone and to allow myself to be in the unknown. It wasn’t easy. One of the things that helped me to go through this period of time was to set an intention that would keep me focused. Since every day my default mind wanted to make the choice and get the instant relief that I have one less thing to decide about, one less thing to take off of my to do list, I didn’t want to go through another week in which my brain would scan again all the variables (it was so tiring), only to find that it was not yet the right time nor the right place to make that choice.
So I set this intention:

Trust that the right choice will be made at the right time.

Every time that my mind started the race again, I would stop, take a deep breath, and remind myself of my intention. I wrote the intention on a 3×5 card, put it on my bathroom mirror and practiced this intention for a whole week. After that week, this intention became a natural part of my thinking. Meaning it became a part of who I am today. I didn’t need to feel uncomfortable anymore in the unknown, it was much more OK because I was in a space of trust.

Then the time to make the choice came and the three aspects of making a powerful choice were still present. I felt that I was exactly where I needed to be, and I felt that a powerful choice that was working holistically with the big picture of my life has been made.

Sometimes, when we want something to be done or get over with, and we don’t give ourselves the permission, especially as an entrepreneur or an independent business owner, we tend to make choices that are not leading us to where we would like to be. Like attending another week-long seminar instead of taking action in our business. Or perfecting a presentation instead of making calls and booking a time and place to actually deliver the presentation.

After all, the only way that is right for you, is right for you, and sometimes you need to get out of your own way in order to find the right way.

It is true that being focused is another habit that any business owner that intends to succeed should embrace. I will write about the habit of being laser focused in one of my next blogs. Meanwhile please leave your comment and, if you like, any input on a choice you’d like to make that right now doesn’t feel so empowering. I’ll be happy to shed some light on it for you.
