Marcy Cole on Odyssey Radio

We do not forget

October 26, 2010 By Dr. Marcy Cole

During a session with a client today she expressed some concern, “I hope I don’t forget this lesson!”. We’ve all wondered and perhaps worried about that before but really need to give ourselves more credit then that. We are in the driver’s seat of our life. If we choose to retain what we’ve learned and and put to good use we will. Or if we choose to push it down and away it may feel far from our reach.

But here’s what’s so cool to remember about what we learn……it cannot be forgotten! Each new understanding, acknowledgement, “Ah Ha” is safely archived in our consciousness. It is there for our keeping and reference whenever we want or need to call it forth. So….just know that every lesson learned is like a cell of consciousness that is embedded in our being. It is ours and cannot ever be taken away. Revel in that one for a while…..you’ll feel quite wise after all the cumulative learnings you’ve collected along the way! And what’s even cooler….is there is no ceiling or limit…..it just keeps comin…….

The Habit of Making Powerful Choices.

by: Sigal Zoldan
Listen on Odyssey Radio Saturday 23

Everyday I find myself in a position where I need to make choices. From what I’ll cook for dinner, or where we’ll dine out, to where to invest my time and money and what would be the next step in my business.

For as long as I can remember myself, each time prior to making a choice there were a few things that were important to me:

- That I’d feel complete about it.
- That I and others would be happy about it

(meaning, that I don’t intend to hurt anyone, even though some people
feel hurt).

- That I’d feel that because of the choice I made, even if I am not excited about it at that moment, I know that in the holistic picture, it is THE choice I should make.

I call it: "Making Powerful Choices". Because when I don’t make choices in that way, I feel disempowered, and I don’t live my life being disempowered, my goal is to be empowered, to feel good, to enjoy my daily work and endeavors.

Lately, there were many choices I needed to make. It was very challenging for me to balance all of the variables in a way that made me feel empowered. One of the lessons that I learned was that it is not so comfortable for me to be in the unknown, and that’s exactly why I had this burning desire to make a choice, and an empowering one.

I had to be willing to step out of my comfort zone and to allow myself to be in the unknown. It wasn’t easy. One of the things that helped me to go through this period of time was to set an intention that would keep me focused. Since every day my default mind wanted to make the choice and get the instant relief that I have one less thing to decide about, one less thing to take off of my to do list, I didn’t want to go through another week in which my brain would scan again all the variables (it was so tiring), only to find that it was not yet the right time nor the right place to make that choice.
So I set this intention:

Trust that the right choice will be made at the right time.

Every time that my mind started the race again, I would stop, take a deep breath, and remind myself of my intention. I wrote the intention on a 3×5 card, put it on my bathroom mirror and practiced this intention for a whole week. After that week, this intention became a natural part of my thinking. Meaning it became a part of who I am today. I didn’t need to feel uncomfortable anymore in the unknown, it was much more OK because I was in a space of trust.

Then the time to make the choice came and the three aspects of making a powerful choice were still present. I felt that I was exactly where I needed to be, and I felt that a powerful choice that was working holistically with the big picture of my life has been made.

Sometimes, when we want something to be done or get over with, and we don’t give ourselves the permission, especially as an entrepreneur or an independent business owner, we tend to make choices that are not leading us to where we would like to be. Like attending another week-long seminar instead of taking action in our business. Or perfecting a presentation instead of making calls and booking a time and place to actually deliver the presentation.

After all, the only way that is right for you, is right for you, and sometimes you need to get out of your own way in order to find the right way.

It is true that being focused is another habit that any business owner that intends to succeed should embrace. I will write about the habit of being laser focused in one of my next blogs. Meanwhile please leave your comment and, if you like, any input on a choice you’d like to make that right now doesn’t feel so empowering. I’ll be happy to shed some light on it for you.

Jan Shepherd

Jan Shepherd has a powerful blog entry in the Huffington Post this week that will inspire anyone who knows about negative self image and yo-yo dieting. In a post titled "My Relationship with Food: A Reflection of Self," she talks about how she gave up self-hatred for being fat, got off the dieting treadmill and found inspiration for living a richer life.
"Instead of focusing on what I was putting inside of me, I began to focus on, with acceptance, what was already worthwhile about me," she writes. "I began to make real and lasting progress by concentrating on my core potential. It was at that point that I could fully appreciate that the before picture had little to do with food, and the after picture, little to do with dieting. It mostly had to do with my inaccurate and cruel self-evaluation."
Having gone from size 2 to 32 in her lifetime, her inspiring story offers encouragement for finding your healthy weight after you find your emotionally and spiritually healthy self. Her awesome before and after photos show that her approach worked for her!

Lisa Elia

After more than 23 years in the public relations industry and working with entrepreneurs of all levels, from start-ups to very established business whizzes, I’ve found that most people need a good understanding of public relations to truly succeed -- even if they have the funds to hire a PR firm. This is why I created programs to help entrepreneurs just like you understand the most important aspects of public relations and publicity, so you can do it yourself if you choose or be positioned to delegate PR in a manner that will get you the results you want. The basis for my CLEAR system is something I created that will help you in just about any situation: “Communicate with Love, Enthusiasm, Appreciation and Respect.”

Life is good.
Where we are going is defined by how it feels getting there
The prize, the destination, the arrival won’t matter much, unless it feels good along the way to getting there
From beginning to end, how things feel is what matters most.

"When you let go, you make room for your dream. You may not see it, so focused you are on what is leaving. But if you could see as God sees, you would see the golden sails of the Mighty Bountiful cresting over the horizon -- its sails catching the sea wind with unbounded Joy! You thought your ship had passed you by, when all the while, it was just waiting for you, Child, waiting to come in."~~ Christiane Schull

July 10 Blogtalk : Rene Roberts

How my journey began.

My name is Rene Roberts and perhaps, like many of you, I have been on a personal journey toward health and wellness. For me the journey began out of necessity after an injury to my knee that seemingly would require surgery and a complete knee replacement. Complications with my Cerebral Palsy and difficulties with my insurance company would not allow the surgery to safely take place and I began to experience extreme pain and difficulty moving. My life seemed to be shrinking and everyday tasks became increasingly difficult. By Christmas 2007 I had had enough and decided as a last ditch effort to join a gym and begin supervised exercise with a personal trainer. The results have been miraculous!

Amazing results

Not only have I lost 50 pounds since that time, I also now stand two inches taller, I am stronger and more mobile than I have ever been, and I have completed 7 Sprint Triathlons. Needless to say my life has expanded exponentially and I love knowing myself as an athlete for the first time in 45 years! Pretty amazing considering during my knee injury my doctor recommended I begin using a wheel chair. Recently while swimming at the gym I began to wonder what my life would be like now if I had been able to exercise like this as a child. I always went to physical therapy after a surgery (I have had 20) but that seemed more like time spent addressing what was wrong with my body rather than actual fitness exercises meant to address what was strong and “right” with my body.

The "A-Ha" moment leads to our vision

That day I had an “A-Ha” moment! I knew I wanted to open a gym for children with disabilities and their families. I knew how good I felt after I exercised my muscles that are normally so tight and stiff. I knew how confident I felt when I accomplished something new. (Simple things like standing from a chair without using my arms to push up or leaning back in the shower to wash my hair, not having to lean on something to stay standing for any length of time). Most of all I know the accomplishment that comes from exercise as it strengthens me for the rest of my life. I want to give these kinds of opportunities away to children with disabilities and their families! It is with this passion to make a difference that I started Inclusion Infusion. My vision is that Inclusion Infusion be a gym and a support link for children with all types of disabilities and their families. We will provide individual personal training, chiropractic care and small group classes for children who are so often excluded from typical activities like ballet, yoga, or karate because of the challenges they face physically, mentally or emotionally. We will also provide support groups, coaching, and advocacy services for parents as well as an adult area of the gym where parents can exercise and relieve stress while their children are either being trained or taking classes.

Sheri Varela

Sheri Baby provides inspiration, motivation, and encouragement with positive messages imprinted on tshirts that we design and offer. The t-shirt idea was born when I had a need to lift my own spirits. I ran to my closet, grabbed some t-shirts (which are my favorite comfort clothing items) and wrote myself some positive messages directly on the tees. I wore the tees daily, slept in them; and soon I noticed that the messages were having the right impact on my mindset. It was then that I had to make this my business: the business of lifting spirits with an inspirational message on great tees.

Tracy Pattin

Adventure is my life. Just as I am always looking to expand my own story, I'm hungry for everyone else's story. In 2002, in my 40s, I ripped off my "golden handcuffs" and left my comfortable, rent-controlled San Francisco life and headed to a place I thought I'd always hated- Los Angeles. It was the best and biggest adventure of my life.

I sublet furnished apartments around Los Angeles moving every two months (via Craigslist) for two years (another great adventure). I had no place to live, but had a full time office job (my greatest fear) in post production. This time I was handcuffed to a job (and not a City). I hated the 9-5 routine but loved the fascinating people. I gained editing skills, learned about shooting video and learned how to record audio.

Once again I ripped off the golden handcuffs quitting that 9-5 day job for another adventure. But I had no idea what it was. I knew it didn't matter. I just had to make a change. As they say --when we take action, the "how" works itself out.
Now, I had my condo. No day job. No clear sense of direction. So, I just stepped out. The UCLA Writer's Faire seminar changed my life 2 1/2 years ago. I knew New Media (podcasts, blogs, webcasts, weblogs, Facebook, Twitter) was the industry for me.

I started building my own brand with Sizzle in the Middle.com and SizzleCaster.com producing web shows podcasts and writing my blog. Now, I help create and develop personal branding through Web Testimonials for other businesses to help people get their message out and build internet buzz.

"Now is the time" internet sensation (and author of "Crush It!") Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV yells from the rooftops about this new way of sharing content, your message, your ideas, your business, your service. "Once you make a decision (then feel and take action) the Universe conspires to make it happen." Here's to the next adventure...
